The Call of the Forest
Minel sat by the window of her little cottage in the village, gazing out into the distance. The sky was still pink from dawn, and a gentle breeze played with the leaves of the old oak tree. But Minel’s heart was restless. For weeks, she had heard a soft whisper, a murmur only she could understand. It was the call of a place no one else could see — the Glimmerwood.
Niv, her winged kitty, leapt down from her lap and purred softly. With big eyes, it looked up at Minel as if to say, “We should go.” Minel smiled and gently took Niv into her arms.
“Yes, Niv,” she whispered, “it’s time.”
She packed her witch’s book, a small pouch of magical herbs, and a warm cloth. Outside her door, she breathed in the cool morning air deeply. The forest lay before her — mysterious and full of possibilities.
On silent feet, Minel and Niv stepped beneath the first canopy of leaves, and soon the world around them began to shimmer — as if the forest itself was welcoming them.
But Minel also knew: not all creatures here would welcome them with open arms. The Glimmerwood was a place full of magic—and full of secrets.
Minel built herself a small home at the edge of the forest. With twigs, moss, clay, and a little bit of magic, she shaped a cozy little hut. Niv jumped from branch to branch, curiously exploring the surroundings.
But the longer they stayed, the more they felt the gazes of the forest dwellers. Curious eyes flashed from behind tree trunks, and the rustling in the underbrush told Minel they were being watched.
The woodland creatures of the Glimmerwood were cautious. “Who is this stranger?” the tree spirits asked. “Why does she bring her own magic?” the elves murmured.
Minel understood their fear. Humans had once caused much harm to the forest. And although she sought only peace and friendship, she felt the distance they put between her and themselves.
“We must show that we are friends,” Minel whispered to Niv. “But it will take time.”
At twilight, little glowbugs floated around their new home. Minel sat quietly and opened her witch’s book. She wanted to learn how to earn the forest dwellers’ trust—with patience, respect, and heart.
